New Student Library Orientation: Borrowing Books

This guide is designed to help new students through the first few weeks at UNMSOL by introducing them to the Law Library's resources, services, and policies.

Book Check Out

UNM Law Students may check out circulating materials with a valid UNM ID.

The loan period for items from the general collection extends until the end of the semester during which they are checked out, with two renewals allowed. The loan period for course reserve and academic support materials is two hours.

Borrowers are billed for replacement of unreturned materials. If the bill is not paid, a hold is placed on the student’s record that may prevent registering for classes or obtaining transcripts.

Borrowing from Other Libraries

This service is known as interlibrary loan (ILL) and its purpose is to obtain materials that are not available at UNM libraries. The law library provides free ILL service to law students. To initiate a request fill out the ILL Request form.
