What's in this Guide

Welcome to the New Mexico Legislative History Quick Guide. This guide will demonstrate how to find legislative history documents for New Mexico statutes utilizing various sources found both online and in print in the library.

It is important to note that not many statutes prior to 1996 have substantive legislative history. Most of the information available will be limited to the names of legislators who signed the Senate or House bill in question or potentially a Fiscal Impact Report. That being said, there are some statutes that do have notes of legislative intent in the form of house and senate journals. This guide will provide a step-by-step analysis of how to locate the document for which you are looking.

If you have any questions, please contact the Law Library’s  reference desk at (505) 277-0935 or at lawlibrary.unm.edu.
