Is the "Act of God" Dead?
Speaker: Clifford Villa (University of New Mexico)

Cliff Villa is an Assistant Professor at the University of New Mexico School of Law where he teaches in the areas of environmental and constitutional law. Prior to joining the UNM law faculty, he served for 22 years as an attorney for the EPA focusing on the cleanup of mining districts and federal facilities, as well as emergency response.

Guerilla Marketing

Speakers: Heather Holmes & Joseph Lawson (Harris County)

Guerilla marketing is the practice of using high-energy, grassroots, non-conventional marketing practices to get the word out about events and products. Its an excellent strategy for building law library marketing practices from scratch and on a limited budget. We'll discuss creating and implementing low-cost marketing strategies for promoting programs and resources, using commonly-available software and office equipment to create high-quality marketing materials in various media, and engaging your audience in both physical and digital spaces.

This program will provide an overview of sources necessary for oil and gas research. There will be a discussion of primary and secondary resources, subscription databases, and free internet sites.

The Politics of Food in the Southwest: The Complex Example of New Mexico

This panel will respond to a series of discussion questions such as:

  • What obstacles do the various communities in NM face when trying to access fresh, safe, and affordable food?
  • What role can our public schools play in addressing food insecurity?
  • Which local food traditions in NM are under threat and which are flourishing?
  • Does New Mexico need a state food strategy?
  • What cooperative efforts are underway to facilitate access to high-quality food?
  • How great is the impact of economic status on access to fresh, safe, and affordable food?
  • What cultural factors influence the food practices and realities of our varied communities?

Join your colleagues for an evening reception in the hotel's Roxy Room. Each attendee will receive 2 drink tickets for wine/beer/sodas. A cash bar will be available once the tickets run out. Hors d'oeuvres will include chilled stuffed shrimp, green chile cheese chicken wellington, goat cheese grapes, savory stuffed mushrooms, fire grilled local farmers market vegetables, house made bread, white bean hummus, pepper and dill yogurt dip, and a 'mac and cheese' bar.
